Whitesands Bay, West Wales Coastal Path Water Colours

This is a selection of water colours of areas near St. David's in West Wales
These paintings were done in April 1983

Whitesands Bay
One of Wales's little gems, glorious beach, wonderful surf  and then the rain .....

Coastal Path headland views  somewhere between
Abereiddy and  Port Gain, and then around to Whitesands Bay
One minute the sky would be blue and all the colours vibrant and alive.
As you watched the rain approach the colours would change the vibrancy would persist but colours and tones would struggle for dominance as the clouds, then the rain, forced changes

The title of this work grew and grew and finally became

Two soldiers sitting in a trench in WW1 wishing their ancestors had taken the offer on the emigration poster that had just appeared in front of them -

Snappy title !!

Two works inspired by the words of James Cameron , the journalist 1911-1985,
in a television programme the year before he died

Wendy and her garden 1983-1993

I started painting Wendy's garden in 1984,
the summer after we married

Also did sketches of inside of the house

Where bits of the garden would find themselves indoors

Wendy never really liked me drawing her

Aberporth 1984

London 1985

Sometime in between

We went to Brixham, for her birthday in December 1992, just after Christmas and into the New Year

She'd been ill but she wanted to go

These were the last drawings I did of her

WENDY RYAN
 31.12.1945 - 13.03.1993

Following Wendy's death in 1993
 I completed the following paintings

The last one is a painted collage of items from Wendy's life, a photograph of her father, work passes and letters of good will from friends when she was ill.

It seemed a fitting conclusion to a series of portraits of a woman loved by many, including me.
